Whitening Sensitive Teeth at Home

When Smile Brilliant contacted me about working with them I was instantly intrigued and excited! While motherhood has definitely taken a toll on the condition of my teeth, my stained teeth story goes a little further back.

My Teeth Whitening History

Like many teenagers, I had braces when I was about 12. While I had straight teeth after taking my braces off, I also had stained teeth. I’ve never had any cavities but apparently I didn’t brush my teeth well enough when I had braces. My orthodontist recommended that I have my teeth professionally whitened. But after paying thousands of dollars for my braces, my parents decided against that option. Instead, I tried different over the counter whitening strips. While these helped, they never fully got rid of all the stains on my teeth.

Fast forward 15 years, I become a mom. Let’s just say that once I became a mom I may have occasionally forgetting to brush my teeth during the day or would remember to do it only at night. (can anyone relate?) On top of all the coffee I consumed in two years, my teeth were not exactly in pristine condition. That’s where smile brilliant comes in. Smile Brilliant gave me a professional teeth whitening experience for a fraction of the cost. And if you don’t believe me, just look at my results.

The Process

The Smile Brilliant whitening process is very simple. They send you a box in the mail with everything you need. You follow the instructions that they give you and create an indention of your teeth. After you send the indention back into them, they send you custom fit whitening trays back to you. You then use this retainer for the  whitening gel and desensitizing gels. Each treatment takes from 45 minutes to 3 hours. As a busy mom, I usually do this during nap time or at night after Ellie goes to bed. Here are three things I love the most about the Smile Brilliant process.

The Results

I am shocked with how white my teeth are after only a week of using the product. It is by far the best whitening product I’ve used. And while it is more expensive than over the counter strips, it is much cheaper than having your teeth professionally whitened.

The Desensitizing Gel

I’ve always had sensitivity issues with past whitening strips that I’ve used. So I was excited to learn that the kit comes with a desensitizing gel that you use right after you whiten your teeth. This helped TREMENDOUSLY. If I ever had any slight sensitivity I immediately used the desensitizing gel and the sensitivity went away.

The Comfort of the Retainer

Whitening strips always seemed to slide off my teeth or just feel gross. But since Smile Brilliant makes a retainer just for you, it’s a very comfortable process.

The only thing I didn’t love about the whole thing was making the teeth indentations. I’ve never liked the feeling of goo in my mouth even when I was a kid. But fortunately it only takes a few minutes to make the indentions and then you’re good to go!
