My second installment of The Enneagram in Flowers is the Thinking Center which are numbers 7, 6, and 5. Let’s begin with 7.
SEVEN: The Enthusiast
Flower: Cosmos “joy in love and life.”
Seven’s are full of life and fun-loving. They are always looking forward to the next adventure and fun-thing. While this can be exciting and engaging to others it can also be exhausting. I chose this verse as a reminder to sevens that true joy comes from the Lord and that it is more important to have joy from the Lord than fleeting happiness.
Avoiding anything that isn’t fun
Joyful no matter the circumstances
Focused and Engaged
I chose this verse from Psalm 4:7 because it says that the Lord is our true source of joy. He is the only one who can give us lasting joy and happiness despite our circumstances.
SIX: The Loyalist
Flower: Blue Hyacinth: Constancy
The loyalty that sixes show to others is beautiful. That’s why I chose this verse from Ruth. Ruth is giving up everything she has in order to be with Naomi. Unfortunately sixes can also easily become anxious. They must remember to hand over all of their cares and concerns to the Lord and be brave and bold like Ruth.
Becomes easily anxious
Warm and Engaged
Ruth 1:16 is one of my favorite verses because it is such a stunningly beautiful picture of devotion and love. Ruth gave up everything she had in order to follow Naomi. In the same way, sixes are often loyal to a fault. Ruth is also an example of courage in the midst of utter loss. When sixes become anxious, it is helpful to be reminded of people like Ruth who overcame her anxieties and trusted the Lord to provide for her.
FIVE: The Investigator
Flower: Cowslip “Pensiveness”
Fives are a little bit of a mystery which is part of their appeal. They can often be withdrawn and introverted. But they are also usually full of wisdom and insight. I chose this verse as a reminder to them to seek wisdom.
I chose this verse for the 5 because it represents the wisdom that five’s embody. Because the five’s are often in a world of their own, they need to be reminded to engage with the people around them and to share their wisdom with others.
