How to Make Your Clothes Maternity and Breastfeeding Friendly

Maternity friendly clothes

Pregnancy, labor and delivery, and breastfeeding are hard enough on a woman, but it can be even more challenging when nothing seems to fit. It's also frustrating when the maternity and breastfeeding clothes that you do find are unflattering or super expensive.

I get asked a lot by new moms about what I wore when I was pregnant. I often tell them that breastfeeding clothes were actually a lot harder to find than maternity clothes. I also tell them that when they are buying maternity clothes, try to buy items that you can also breastfeed in, if you're planning on breastfeeding.

I've come up with a few ways to take your everyday stylish clothes and convert them into pregnancy and breastfeeding clothes. I'm so excited to collaborate with Jules and James, a local boutique in town. You can also find them on Facebook if you don't live near here!

1. Buy Comfortable, Stretchy Tops

This gray top might be my new all-time favorite piece of clothing. Why? It's incredibly soft, the perfect color, and can be worn with leggings or jeans. It's also long and flowy so it could be easily worn through almost an entire pregnancy and after! Since we're still in that awkward stage of not yet spring but not winter, this is also a perfect top for the current weather!

2. Find Tops You Can Wear Nursing Tanks Under

Black+Ruffles, what more could you want? I love this top because it can be worn pre-pregnancy, during pregnancy, and while breastfeeding. Breastfeeding tops SAVED my life when I had my little girl. Typically, breastfeeding friendly clothes are either hideous or way too expensive! Classic tops like this black one are perfect for

3. Kimonos are Your Best Friend

My daughter was born in the spring so I LIVED in kimonos that summer. Why? Because I could wear a nursing tank under them and they were still super cute. This kimono from Jules and James is beautiful and a must-have for your closet!

None of these clothes are technically maternity but all of them would work for the majority of your pregnancy and while you're breastfeeding.

I hope these tips helped! Be sure to check out Jules and James here for more inspiration!
