The Easiest Way to Make Outdoor Pillows for Your Porch

I love pillows because they are an easy way to re-create and add character to any room in your house. This tutorial is a simple, inexpensive way to make your porch feel cozy and welcoming.

I bought this outdoor fabric at a store in Nashville, TN when we were visiting my in-laws. If you don't have a good fabric store nearby, fabric.com is a great resource for any kind of fabric. This is a standard 16' by 16' pillow, but you can easily make this for any size pillow that you want. To make it even easier, I folded the piece of fabric in half  and cut out a 16 1/2' by 16 1/2' square piece of fabric. (The 1/2' is for the seam allowance.) The top of the fabric is on the fold.

First step, cut fabric on fold.

  Turn fabric inside out.

Sew a 1/2' on both sides of the pillow and leave an 8-10 inch opening at the bottom.

Turn pillow inside out. You can either stuff the pillow or buy a pillow frame from a local fabric store. Once you've stuffed your pillow, hand sew the opening.
